Once upon a time in two different states…
Written by Stephanie, approved by Juan
Everyone we meet becomes quickly intrigued with the way that we met. The avenue in which we took to find each other seemed quite unusual to us at the time, but apparently it's not so unconventional anymore.
We met in January 2004 on an online networking site for LDS church members. At the time I was living in Utah, and Juan in Texas. Our story all began one day when I saw Juan's profile sent him a short message. I have to admit that it was Juan's smile that caught my attention, and eventually caught my heart.

Shortly after “meeting” I moved to Phoenix, Arizona to start a new chapter of my life. What I didn't know at the time was that the new chapter would involve a handsome Bolivian-turned-Texan man. For the next seven months we would continue to cyber correspond, spend hours on the phone, and occasionally send each other letters through the pony express. Juan courageously flew out to Phoenix on July 3 rd, 2004, to meet the woman of his dreams (I am referring to myself, of course). Our holiday weekend proved to be a turning point in our relationship, which at that point we decided that it really wasn't fun living two states away, so we agreed, and felt strongly, that marriage was definitely in the near future.
Our long distance relationship continued for a few more months…and let me just say that it was not easy! Texas felt like an entire continent away, and regardless of our separation complaints at the time, I knew I had found my knight in shining spurs. After a few visits to Texas, and a trip to Bolivia for Juan, I made the big move to the great state of Texas. On October 2, 2004 Juan swept me off my feet. We galloped (drove) for 18 hours toward the Texas sunset… Juan decked out with his shiny spurs, of course. |

Tuesday, December 14, 2004, we were married in the Mesa, Arizona Temple. Our wedding day was perfect. It was like a warm spring day, but in the middle of December. There are a thousand things that we can say about our perfect day, but we will just say that we will never forget our special day.
We have made our home in Addison, Texas, for our first years of marriage. Through our ups & downs we have managed to stay deliriously happy and we look forward to the many more chapters in our lives that have yet to be told. |
